Remote Control Manager (Freeware)

Remote Control Manager is a complete solution for managing all network devices in one central system that is accessible by all technical support help desk staff.  The Remote Control Manager system does not replace existing methods of managing devices but instead uses the existing tools to administer the selected device with the appropriate software.

The program was originally written for use with third party remote control software such as RDP, VNC and NetSupport however it soon became clear that remote controlling servers or workstations was not enough and the management system needed to be expanded to provide access to command prompt and web based tools. With this in mind the program has been updated to include the use of a Tools, Dashboards and the newly introduced Adavanced tabs where favorites like nslookup, tracert, ping and Web based pages such as dns lookups and RSS support feeds are readily available to the engineer.

How does it work ?

Remote Control Manager uses connection templates to apply the default command line parameters for each connection stored in the database.  Where client IP Addresses, Port Numbers, Usernames or Passwords would normally be entered into the command line these are replaced with variables available from the RCM system.  For example a command line RDP console connection shortcut would commonly consist of:

  • %windir%\system32\mstsc.exe /v:server2k3:3389 /console

Using Remote Control Manager the Connection Template would become:

  • %windir%\system32\mstsc.exe /v:$hostname$:$portno$ /console

As you can see this one connection template can then be applied to any computer stored within the Remote Control Manager database.  As you create more connection templates for products such as UltraVNC or RealVNC Viewer it makes changing clients from one connection template to another extremely easier, changing the devices connection template would only need to be updated.
