v1.5.23 - 9th October 2016

New Features

  • All Templates can now be exported to file via the Templates screen.
    Only items with a checkbox ticked are exported (right click and choose Export).

Bug Fixes

  • The window sizes are remembered on logoff/on.

Bug Fixes

  • The login name value was restricted to 10 characters which is to short for LDAP usernames.  
    The username, password and displayname user fields have been increased to 255 characters.
  • If no LDAP Servers were configured and attempting to update a user a error would occur.
  • The Tab Index values for the Login screen, User Administration and LDAP dialog windows were incorrect.
  • Pressing CTRL+H to copy a device hostname to the clipboard could result in a error.  
    Additional error checking has been added to capture the event if it occurs.
  • Device \ Find Online Devices would result in a error if selected.

New Features
  • LDAP Authentication
    LDAP Servers can be added by System Administrators only (System / Manage / LDAP Servers). 
    Users must then login using the username value of '[DOMAIN]\Username'.

    Caching the users Domain password will be available in a future release so the Automatically login will continue to function.  The password will be encrypted unlike at present which is in plain text format in the HKCU\RCM\Login registry key.

Bug Fixes

  • Non system administrator users can now only view the Templates and Software Respository menu items.
  • $group.???$ replacement fields were not being applied on Device Connection Templates.

Bug Fixes
  • Users with no email address set would cause errors on loading.
  • If a user attempted to change their password to nothing/blank a error would occur. Passwords must now >=1 character in length.
  • The middle splitter bar if positioned off screen would result in a 'Run-time error 380' on next launch.
  • The Template Editor dialog switches text boxes have been increased in size.
  • The Dynamic Dashboards Validation rules were not being set on save.
  • The Dynamic Dashboard Validation rule 'Field Value Check' has been fixed, see help for usage.

Bug Fixes
  • If a user switched between single and dual screen displays the console would load but could not be maximised from the task bar.  RCM now checks how many monitors are connected and if only one monitor is detected the console will open successfully.

  • Minor GUI enhancement to the Login screen / Forgot Password option.
  • Changed the Lock image for Dynamic Dashboards.
Bug Fixes
  • If the SMTP server could not be contacted on Login Screen / Forgot Password link the error was not very informative, a more detailed error now appears.
  • If you clicked a white space in the device view a Exit Now error would occur.

New Features
  • A Forgot Password option has been added to the Login screen.  When selected a user will receive an email with their login details.  Two REG_SZ registry settings are required in the path of:
    HKCU\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\Remote Control Manager\SMTP
    Server: [SMTP Server Address]
    Sender: [Senders Email Address]
  • A Change Password option has been added to the User / Preferences / General section.
Bug Fixes
  • The import routine would fail to import Groups and Devices correctly.
  • The SQL script used to create the rcm database in SQL 2005/2008 would result in a hang at the splash screen.  A error message will now be returned.

New Features
  • SSH Public and Private Keys can now be stored against any device.  Two new device variables are now available: 
    $device.sshpublickey$
    $device.sshprivatekey$
  • Favourites view has been added.  The Favourites view is disabled by default, to switch it on select menu option:
    User Preferences / Groups / Show Favourites.
Bug Fixes
  • The Group Search text box would not appear correctly when enabled.
  • Static Dashboard webpages would cache sites and a restart was required.  Clicking on the Home button will now reload the page correctly.

New Features
  • An Update Visibility option has been added to the Devices context menu so multiple devices can now be selected in one go to either hide or show them.
  • Minor GUI image changes to the show/hide buttons in Group and Device views.
  • The Device properties, Polling tab has been renamed to Options.
  • The Device hidden checkbox has been moved to the Options tab.
Bug Fixes
  • User passwords are limited to 50 characters at creation however the login password was limited to 10 characters. The login prompt now accepts passwords upto 50 characters in length.
  • If no Dynamic Dashboards existed a error would occur on device selection.  Where no Dynamic Dashboards exist the Devices view will be maximized to fill in the space.
  • When copying a device (duplicate) if you tried to launch the copied device an error would occur.
  • The show/hidden settings were not being saved of exit/reload of RCM.

Bug Fixes

  • Some device.passwords would not decrypt correctly so the method of encryption has been updated.  All existing device.passwords will be converted as part of the upgrade.
  • If the user entered the wrong password and pressed enter on the message box that appeared the login failure window would keep reappeaing until the user clicked the Cancel button.

New Features
  • A Copy Parent Group option has been added the Groups / Custom Fields tab.
  • Dynamic Dashboards can be forced to display even when another dynamic dashboard is marked as the default.  The popup will will display for a maximum of 30 seconds before autoclosing.  The popup will appear on top of all other windows and can be positioned on screen to a more desirable location if required. Pressing the pause button (bottom right corner) will stop the popup button from autoclosing and save the window location.

Bug Fixes
  • If Auto-refresh was enabled when it ran the 2nd static dashboard in the list would become the default dashboard.
  • After a Global Refresh had been run returning to the System tab and clicking on any device would result in a error.
  • After a Global Refresh had been run the devices list would still contain the list of devices prior to the refresh, selecting any of the devices would result in an error.

New Features
  • Right clicking on Device list columns brings up the View context menu.
  • Dynamic Dashboards can be locked.
    Useful if you are sharing your screen with third party and don't want them to view sensitive information that may be stored in the Dynamic Dashboards.  
    Lock: Press F4 or double clicking any Dynamic Dashboard tab will lock the dashboards. 
    Unlock: Press F4 or double click the padlock picture and enter the unlock code.
    Code: Set under the User Preferences / General options (per user setting).
Bug Fixes
  • After adding a new device some of the device column's would not update successfully and could result in a error if selected.
  • If the group device column was visible it would show the devices were in the Recycle Bin when they weren't.
  • If any Tool was launched when the default Groups folder was selected a Type Mismatch error would occur.

New Features
  • A scrolling feature has been added to the Static Dashboards list.  Use left and right arrow keys to scroll the list. To return the list back to original layout press any other key.
  • New buttons added to Groups and Devices to show / hide items quickly.
  • Item counts for Total and Hidden devices appear on the status bar.
Bug Fixes
  • When RCM was minimized a dynamic dashboard would appear ontop of the currently selected static dashboard when maximised.
  • The $user.MyWebBrowser$ variable was not working as expected after setting a new web browser under User Preferences / Personal Variables.
  • Web browser popups would fail to execute and would result in a error.
  • An Index out of bounds (35600) error would occur if no icon file name was specified for Static Dashboards.
  • Minor GUI enhancements.

Bug Fixes
  • Importing groups would display an error when clicking Next on the field selection screen.  This stopped the import from proceeding.
  • Importing groups which contained a single quote (') would result in a error and the group would not be imported.
  • The delay setting when selecting a group and the dynamic dashboard refreshing has been re-activated as the groups view lost focus when the dashboard refreshed.  This stopped users from searching for a particular group.
  • The Custom Connect dialogue incorrectly showed Quick Connect text.

v1.5.0 - 24th October 2013
New Features
  • Numerous GUI enhancements.  Look and feel has been greatly improved.
  • The Device and Groups notes are stored in HTML format (Requirements: IIS 6/7 and ASP.NET).
  • Dashboards are now known as Static Dashboards.
  • Advanced Tabs are now known as Dynamic Dashboards.
  • Dynamic and Static Dashboards containing hyperlinks that requested a new window can now be redirected out your default browser.
  • Internal variables have been redesigned.
  • Additional Personal variables have been added for mixed x86/x64 systems.
  • Additional validation rules have been added to Dynamic Dashboards templates.
  • Dynamic and Static Dashboard text caption can have a short name.
  • Groups and Devices deleted are moved to a Recycle Bin.  Only on deleting the items from the Recycle Bin are the items permanently removed.
  • Devices can now be linked to multiple groups.
  • Classes can be applied to all selected devices using the Assign Device Class context menu (right click on selected devices).
  • The Quick Connect option has been replaced with the Alternative Connect which lists all connection templates.  Quick Connect has been renamed to Custom Connect.
  • Help system has been updated.
